Vernal, UT Feb. 4, 2022 – Dinosaur themed bike racks have been placed around downtown Vernal, allowing a safe place to chain up your bike, while also adding to dinosaurland’s unique aesthetic. Bike racks in the shape of triceratops and a pterodactyl have been placed at Ashley Valley Park, Uintah County Library and Naples City Park. A fourth rack will be placed at a later date.
In August and September 2020, TriCounty Health Department (TCHD), acting as a member of the Active and Healthy Communities Committee, asked for design concepts and offered recognition and funding to anyone interested in designing these dinosaur themed bike racks. Winners of the contest are local artists: Carrie Munford; Arnie Gray; Corey Hicken; Whitney Jackson.
“I hope this is one small step for future changes in the right direction,” Health Officer, Kirk Benge, said. “I hope families in the community feel safe knowing there is a place to lock up bikes as children ride their bikes to parks and the local library. It is great to see our supportive community pull together again to show support for children playing outdoors.”
After winners were chosen, there was a long period of hard work, leading to the start of 2022 featuring an unveiling of the hard work. The goal is to encourage healthy living and give the local communities more means and opportunity to be active.
