Vernal, UT Sept. 27, 2021 – Utah Department of Health (UDOH) announced Friday, Sept. 23, that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends booster doses for individuals who originally received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and are 65 years old and older. In light of this announcement and after recommendations that all immunocompromised individuals receive a booster of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, TriCounty Health Department (TCHD) will have all COVID-19 vaccines available upon request at the local Flu Shootout events this October.

TCHD will hold its annual Flu Shootout events on Oct. 6 and 7 from 4pm-7pm, at Vernal TCHD building, USU Campus Roosevelt, Manila Clinic, and Duchesne High School. This simultaneous event in four locations makes it easy to attend and get your flu shot for this flu season. TCHD welcomes those who would like a Pfizer booster dose to come get vaccinated.  TCHD also welcomes anyone seeking either their first or second dose of any COVID-19 vaccine to come to the event.

“We’re excited to be out in the community with flu shots again this year.  I encourage everyone to get the flu shot each fall. My family and I get the flu shot each year; in part to reduce our risk of getting sick, but also to help make sure we aren’t spreading the flu to others during the holidays.”  TriCounty Health Officer, Kirk Benge, said. “I am also pleased that this year we will have COVID-19 vaccines available at the same time.  Anyone that is in need of a first or second dose or anyone wanting a Pfizer booster dose is welcome to get it, or get it alongside their flu shot this year.”

COVID-19 booster doses should be administered at least six months after a person receives their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty) vaccine.
