Vernal, UT Aug. 23, 2021 – TriCounty Health Department (TCHD) announced today the first COVID-19 related death in Daggett County. The patient is a male, between 65 and 85 years old. He was hospitalized prior to his death. Preliminary data suggests he had not been vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to contracting the virus.
“Our hearts go out to the friends and families of all lives lost due to COVID-19,” TriCounty Health Officer, Kirk Benge, said. “We share in the family’s grief and are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that our community is informed on steps they can take to protect their health. We continue to encourage every eligible person in the community to get vaccinated, stay home when sick, and prevent spread in public places.”
The newest death brings the local total count up to 44 individuals who have lost their lives from COVID-19 or complications from contracting the virus. The tri-county area has seen a total of 5,472 COVID-19 cases and 539 hospitalizations since March 2020. The majority of these individuals have recovered (5,070), though there are some individuals who experience long-term health complications.There has been an increase of 16 new cases since yesterday. Last week, 109 new COVID-19 cases were reported.
