September 18 is National HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This day was launched to help bring awareness to the challenges of HIV prevention, testing, care and treatment.
According to the CDC there are approximately 1.2 million people in the U.S with HIV of those about 161,000 do not know that they have it. It is important for adults to have a baseline HIV test as part of a routine health exam. Then have routine screenings depending on risk factors.
There is not a cure for HIV however, it is treatable and individuals can live healthy, comfortable, productive lives with HIV.
Testing is confidential, affordable, timely and easily accessible. We do testing at TriCounty Health Department, an individual can also contact their provider for testing. Contact the TriCounty Health Department for more information.
