TriCounty Health Department closes carnival after multiple carnival employees test positive or COVID-19

Vernal, UT June 25, 2020 – After only one day of operations TriCounty Health Department (TCHD), in conjunction with Uintah County has closed the traveling carnival operating at Western Park after discovering that at least 9 carnival employees tested positive for COVID-19.  The employees were tested in American Fork prior to coming to Vernal, but the results of those tests were not reported to TriCounty Health Department until June 25, 2020.

“As a result of this discovery we are asking anyone who attended the carnival on Thursday, June 25 to take the following precautionary measures,” stated Jordan Mathis, TriCounty Health Officer. “First, actively monitor for symptoms, and if symptoms develop seek testing and then self-isolate. Second, practice appropriate physical distancing and wear a face covering when in public or at work. Lastly, avoid any contact with high-risk individuals, those who are 65 or older or immune-compromised.”

Symptoms for COVID-19 to watch for are: cough, fever, shortness of breath, sore throat, muscle aches and chills, or decreased sense of taste and smell.

TriCounty Health Department will continue to actively work with the carnival company to investigate the extent of the potential exposure in our community.
