National “Kick Butts” Day

What is Kick Butts Day?

Kick Butts Day is a day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco. Youth are specifically targeted by the Big Tobacco companies. They use advertising tactics and flavors to get kids hooked on their products. Local youth coalitions have made great strides in the fight against tobacco, yet the tri-county area has high tobacco use rates. Tobacco use is still the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., killing more than 480,000 people every year.

On Kick Butts Day, kids encourage their peers to stay tobacco free and to reject tobacco companies marketing to target youth. This year, Kick Butts Day is focusing attention on how tobacco companies are enticing kids with a growing market of sweet flavored products

What are the Uintah  and Duchesne County Youth Coalitions?

Youth coalitions are a group of high school students who advocate for healthy lifestyles in our state and local community. They educate their peers and leaders on the dangers of tobacco use, encourage peers to be tobacco-free and help reduce tobacco use by working with tobacco free policies.  In addition, they raise awareness for mental health and help reduce the stigma of mental health conditions.
