In 2008, House Bill 140 was passed by the Utah Legislature. This law requires the operator of a motor vehicle to provide protection for a person younger than 8 years of age by using an appropriate child restraint device like a car seat or a booster seat. Children younger than 8, who are at least 57 inches tall are exempt from the law and may use a regular seat belt. At that point, they should use the lap and shoulder belt without a booster seat.
TriCounty Health Department offers reduced-cost car seats to qualified individuals as well as free car seat checks to ensure that your child’s seat is fitted and installed correctly. Certified technicians are available to assist you at fitting stations in both TriCounty Health Department locations. Appointments can be made by calling 435-247-1171 (Vernal) or 435-722-6306 (Roosevelt).
